Why music? The Music Effect
Music has the ability to effect each human being emotionally and intellectually. My goal is for each student to have a positive experience in music class where we tap into the uniqueness of each individual.

- Cognitive Effect: The universal language of music stimulates the brain to high thinking skills such as problem solving and critical thinking. Strength in music can lead to success in other core subjects.
- Creativity Effect: Music fosters creativity allowing individuals to reach new realms of thinking or giving them the opportunity to express themselves. Music also fosters a group dynamic bring people together in collaborate activities.
- Math/Literacy Effect: Certain concepts click in music. Rhythm is math. Someone may struggle at math but excel at music rhythms. Reading can take on a whole new meaning when words are applied to music. A poem accompanied by music provides deeper connection to literacy.
- Calming Effect: Music calms the soul. Many psychological studies have proven that music releases dopamin in the brain placing us into a relaxed state of mind by blocking stress hormones. The opposite can be true for lively music. Give us a strong beat, fast tempo, and catchy tune, and we want to dance along. It boosts the "feel good" emotions. Music makes us smile or laugh or cry. The academic response of Classical music is often referred to as the Mozart effect.
- Music is also used for therapy sessions by producing connections within the brain. Music encourages coordination and communication among disabled children. Motor control can improve through musical activities.
